Home Warranty Customers: What to Expect

GET Heating & Air is an independent contractor. Your home warranty company sent us to your home. We don't work for them, and we don't decide what your plan covers.

  1. You file a claim with your warranty company. They send the job to us.
  2. We call you to schedule. Appointment times depend on our schedule and your warranty company's rules.
  3. You pay your service fee when we arrive. Your warranty company sets this fee, not us. You owe it whatever we find and whether or not the repair is approved.
  4. We find the problem and report it. We tell your warranty company what's wrong, what caused it and what it takes to fix.
  5. Your warranty company decides. They approve or deny the repair, choose which parts they'll pay for and set the timeline. This can take hours or days.
  6. We do the approved work. If something isn't covered, we'll tell you what it is and give you a price. You decide whether to pay for it yourself.
Our technicians can't approve, deny or change a claim. If you disagree with a decision, call your warranty company. Arguing with our technician won't change the outcome.

What Your Warranty Usually Won't Pay For

Every plan is different, so check your contract. These are the items warranty companies most often refuse to pay for:

When something isn't covered, we'll tell you exactly what it is and what it costs to do it anyway. You don't have to accept.

American Home Shield Customers

These are American Home Shield's published limits for heating and air. Your plan level decides what you get. Your contract is final, so check it if anything here doesn't match.

Dollar limits

Refrigerant

Code violations, permits and modifications

Usually covered

Breakdowns from normal wear and tear, rust, corrosion or age, including compressors, coils, condenser fans, furnaces, heat strips, burners, blower motors, thermostats, condensate drain lines and hardwired parts. If a replacement has to meet new federal efficiency or refrigerant rules, AHS covers the needed upgrades up to your plan limit.

Not covered

Window and portable units, fireplaces, fuel tanks, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, UV lights and air purifiers, routine maintenance, cosmetic damage, cranes, custom sheet metal, and disposal of old equipment or refrigerant.

If AHS doesn't cover something, the balance is between you and GET Heating & Air. We'll give you the price before we do the work. AHS sets the rules; we don't.

Our Code of Conduct

Our dispatchers and technicians are here to help you. We expect the same respect we give you.

We do not tolerate:

If it happens, we will:

  1. End the visit or call right away.
  2. Cancel your service request.
  3. Report what happened to your warranty company.

Common Questions

Why do I have to pay a service fee if my repair was denied?

The fee is part of your warranty contract and pays for the visit and diagnosis. Your warranty company requires us to collect it.

Why do I owe money for refrigerant?

Many plans only pay part of the refrigerant cost. With AHS ShieldSilver and ShieldGold, for example, AHS pays $10 per pound and you pay the rest.

Why is my repair taking so long?

Your warranty company has to approve the repair and often has to approve or order the parts too. We start as soon as they give the go-ahead.

Can I ask for a different part or a new system?

Your warranty company decides that. We can give you a price for anything beyond what they approve.

My claim was denied. What now?

Call your warranty company to dispute it. You can also pay us directly to do the repair.

Who do I call about my appointment?
